News 2016

January

We would like to start the year by wishing all our members and visiting anglers a Happy New Year and tight lines for 2016.

For those of you who have not yet sent in your catch returns to Gavin, please do so as soon as possible, as this information is required for our AGM, which takes place on Thursday 28th January at the New Cross Hands Working Men's club.
The agenda for this can be seen by clicking on the link below.

We would like to make our members aware that the NRW are proposing to introduce total catch and release for Salmon and possibly Sea Trout (Sewin) from 2017.
We would recommend that as many of our members as possible fill in the NRW Questionnaire on exploitation controls for Salmon and Sea Trout in Wales in order to have the chance to give their views and comments on the NRW proposal.
The questionnaire can be found on our website along with the relevant NRW documents by going into the Information file and then clicking on the NRW information where you will find the section Decline in stocks of Salmon and Sea Trout Stocks in Wales. Click on the button and this will bring you to the relevant forms.
Please be reminded that the questionnaire has got to be completed and e mailed to the address given, by 31st January 2016.
Thanks for taking the time to do this.

For those of you who fish the Groe Park waters on the Wye, I have added a copy of their latest News Letter. This can be found by clicking on the Wye button in our Waters file.

March

With the start of the season almost upon us we would like to bring you upto date
on our waters this year.
Firstly we have secured a 5 year lease on a new piece of water on the River Towy which is below Llangadog and is known as Danyrallt Estate.
For details of this, click on the Waters button, then click on the Upper Towy button and this will bring you to the Llangadog - Danyralit Estate. Click on the button to see the map.

At the AGM we announced that we may loose the Upton Hall Waters due to the rental price being too high.
However, I can now inform you that after further negotiations with the owner we have come to an acceptable figure and therefore have retained the lease for a further 3 years.

Would members who intend fishing Groe Park Waters on the River Wye, please be aware that the number of permits have been reduced to 2 per day.
The tickets will still be held at Manordeilo Service Station, so please tie up with them for availability.
Since we are still awaiting the new permits from Groe Park, these will not be available until the beginning of April for this year.

 Carpannini Cup

Once again we are entering a team in to this competition and are looking for any members who would like to take part.
The competition will be held on Saturday 11th June at the Llys-y-fran Reservoir.
The team will consist of 13 members, 6 fishing from boats and 7 from the bank.
Please contact Gavin Davies if you want to put your name forward. A deposit of £10 is required but this will be returned on the day. The competition will be paid for by the club. but you will have to find your own way to the venue. First 13 names given in will attend.

June

Would members please note that there has been a change to the bottom end point of our Danyrallt Estate beat on the River Towy at Llangadog.
This is, that the end of the beat was towards the center of the field, but it has now moved back to the boundary fence.
The beat map has now been modified to show this.
Would members please ensure that they do not fish beyond this boundary.
Thanks for your co-operation.

November

Now that the fishing season has finished can we remind members that we need your catch return form for 2016 filling in and returning to our membership secretary Gavin Davies, in order that we can complete our catch figures for the AGM.  Nil catch returns still need returning.
For any member who has misplaced or lost their 2016 catch return form, a copy can be printed off by going into the Information section of our website and clicking on forms, where you will find a copy of the 2016 blank.
Thanks for your co-operation.

December

We would like to update our members with the latest news of events that are taking place now or in the future.

Firstly we would like to bring your attention to the Carmarthen Fishermen's Federation or CFF as its known.

They are looking for volunteers from all the Towy fishing clubs to get involved in a winter predatory bird count. The volunteers will be required
to accurately count the number of birds along the river on all our fishing stretches.
The count needs to be undertaken on the same day, at the same time along the length of the Towy in a coordinated manner.
The volunteers will be trained by the British Trust for Ornithology before the count takes place in order to ensure that it is done in line with the guidelines laid down by NRW.
If you would like to get involved this exercise could you please contact Mike Hill the CFF secretary on 07931 332270 / 01550 777155 or by e mail mike@myddfai.com

This is the first step to overcoming the disastrous loss of fry and smolts along the whole river Towy.

This information will provide evidence for the NRW of the increasing number of predatory birds along the river.
There NRW has the authority to issue licences to control these birds however they must provide detailed evidence that serious damage is occurring or lightly to occur.

Your cooperation would be appreciated.
